OUR STORY

BRATSERA MP

From the waters of Leros to the shores of Attica — a family tradition.

FROM THE AEGEAN TO THE WORLD
AND BACK

Our story begins around 1900, on a small island in the Dodecanese. Captain Michalis Prouzos — our grandfather — and grandmother Marika raised nine remarkable children there: Sofoklis, Dimitris, Giagkos, Nikolas, Andreas, Niotis — whose sea stories could captivate anyone lucky enough to hear them — Manolis, the last still with us, and daughters Doro and Anneta.

The captain owned a beautiful vessel — a bratsera, the traditional two-masted Aegean schooner. He carried cargo across the islands, sailing as far as Egypt — where he had met grandmother Marika, herself from a Greek family that had settled and flourished there. The crew of the bratsera was his own sons. Their adventures were many, and so was their love of celebration: every time they returned from a voyage, a feast would break out in Agia Marina — and the captain would forget to go home.

That spirit — the seamanship, the craftsmanship, the pride of every voyage — lives on today in the work of Michalis Prouzos, named after his great-grandfather the captain. The name Bratsera MP honours both the vessel and the family that sailed her. From the waters of Leros to the windsurf beaches of Attica, every stitch carries the weight of that tradition.

THE SONG OF THE BRATSERA

"

When will we set sail — to take the helm / to see the mountains of Leros / and let my sorrows pass. / Bratsera mine, come to the shore, / I have two words to tell you. / Dawn has broken in the east / may calm waters spread / and welcome the bratsera sailing in. / Prouzos goes to tack / but the weather won't help him. / Stop blowing, north wind, stop foaming the waves / and do not stand in the way / of the bratsera sailing in.
